Our Students and Their Families

Families who choose the Seattle Waldorf School value a parent-led and age appropriate parenting style. They are open to the philosophical foundation of Waldorf education and interested in developing a supportive relationship with their child’s teachers and with the school. They understand and respect the beneficial nature of rhythms and habits, and the natural unfolding of the curriculum in relation to their child’s development.

These families view independent education as a choice and a priority, and are willing to consider and work with the suggestions of the teachers regarding their child’s development and needs. They are open to and respect the value that the school places on the cultivation of physical, social, and emotional development as well as intellectual capacities. In particular, these families understand and respect the school’s purposeful avoidance of electronic entertainment media in the lives of our younger students; they appreciate the school’s qualitative approach to assessment; they understand and value the school’s manner of supporting each child in working to high standards of achievement within the curriculum, while deliberately avoiding an approach of academic acceleration.

Families are willing to work with the school to further understand its unique educational approach, and are open to engage in creating a school community based on mutual respect, inquiry, and contribution.

Supported by his or her family, our students can reasonably adapt to the structure of the day and the scope of activities. They contribute constructively to the classroom environment and are open to the diversity offered by their peers. They are willing to follow the guidance of teachers, respectfully regarding adults as authority figures. Our students are able to learn and take part in lessons with their class without requiring extensive individualized instruction.
